Burnout Dimensions Inventory (BODI)

Measurement object / dimensions
The BODI is a multidimensional screening instrument for assessing the severity of burnout syndrome with direct implications for prevention, therapy and treatment.

Theoretical background
There is currently no standardized, valid and internationally accepted concept of burnout. Most of the measurement instruments used are of dubious construct validity, differing external validity and poor reliability. The standardizations are also hardly suitable for collecting prevalence figures in the overall population. However, the assessment of the severity of burnout is of central importance, as this determines the subsequent interventions of a preventive and therapeutic-rehabilitative nature.

Execution
After general instructions and a socio-demographic section focusing on working life, the dichotomous test items for self-assessment are presented. Also included are three visual analog scales (VAS) for recording the subjective experience of complaints in the dimensions of work, family and personality. Family and personality. Both individual and group testing is possible.

Execution time
about 10-15 min.

Reliability
Reliability in the sense of internal consistency is given due to the validity of the Rasch model. The Cronbach's alpha for the 4 scales is between 0.75 and 0.94.

Validity
The validity of the BODI is given due to the high level of agreement with other test procedures that measure the same characteristics/dimensions. Furthermore, content validity is present because the test corresponds to theory-guided concepts. The multiple correlation with the complementary MBI scales is.76. The construct validity is therefore given.
The discriminant validity with diagnosed burnout cases is 73%, after cross-validation 72%. This means that approximately ¾ of people can be correctly classified on the basis of the four BODI scales (is burnout present or not).

Evaluation / Standards
The dichotomous items are added together to form four scales.

Execution methods
Possible on PCs/laptops/touchpads without restriction. On mobile phones only to a limited extent, as entering data with a finger is a bit tedious (but possible in principle). There is an Online & Offline (dongle protected) and P&P variant (manual data entry required).

Languages
German, English

Security and data protection
The IR&C system meets the latest IT requirements ("banking standard"). As an additional security measure, personal codes can also be assigned instead of the specific names of the persons tested. Customers only need to provide sufficient PCs/laptops/touchpads with or without an Internet connection (on/off-line capable, also intranet-capable).
